Theme: Human rights in the 21st century
March 21st - March 22nd, 2026
On behalf of the Student Officer team, it is my pleasure to invite you to the 11th year of the annual Scandinavian Model United Nations Conference. We are beyond excited to welcome you to this year's conference, dedicated to the theme of extremism. By diving into global challenges and conflicts and addressing them through diplomacy and dialogue, we hope this event will once again be a successful and enriching experience.
Extremism instigated by either political, religious, or ideological drive has led to a world filled with heightened division, fear, and uncertainty. As a result, it is vital that we attempt to seek solutions through dialogue and focus on addressing root causes of violence and radicalization. The United Nations (UN) allows us to thoroughly confront these problems to ensure security, justice, and freedom. Similarly, we hope that our simulation allows students to enact as actors to reinforce critical thinking allowing them to consider a multitude of perspectives seeking conflict resolution.
Thanks to our experienced chairs, admin, and delegates, we ensure that we have both experienced and inexperienced members who are aware of the challenges participants face. Therefore, it allows us to communicate effectively and allows all ranges of experience to be acknowledged.
To make this event possible, I would like to thank the dedicated student officers, admins, organisers and teachers. Working collaboratively to coordinate and organize such a conference, takes immense effort from our talented community. Their hard work ensures that this is a rewarding experience for every delegate.
As we embark on this exciting event, I encourage you to approach every problem with an open mind and a willingness to participate. Remember that diplomacy is not only about reaching a compromise, but about understanding and respecting the perspectives of others. So please, take this opportunity to learn, grow, and have some fun! Let’s make SCANDMUN 2026 a memorable one!
Yours,
Joanna Rachel Barnabass
